Bloodborne Pathogen, Heartsaver First Aid, and Heartsaver CPR/AED
This course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for job, regulatory (for example, OSHA), or other requirements. These courses can also be taken by anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Students receive a course completion card that is valid for 2 years (Source: www.heart.org).
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
This course reinforces healthcare professionals’ understanding of the importance of early CPR and defibrillation, basic steps of performing CPR, relieving choking, and using an AED; and the role of each link in the Chain Survival (Source: www.heart.org).
Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
The ACLS course helps providers enhance their skills in treating adult victims of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies (Source: www.heart.org). This course requires a current BLS certification.
Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
PALS is designed to train health professionals in cardiovascular treatment of infants, children, and adolescents. Healthcare providers will learn basic rhythms, arrhythmias, and evn skills to assess at-risk patients (Source: www.heart.org).
For American Heart Association courses that include psychomotor skills such as CPR, students must complete an in-person skills practice and testing session to obtain an AHA course completion card. With AHA Blended Learning, the skills practice and skills test are taken together during a Hands-on Skills Session after the student completes the eLearning portion online. This class assesses skills for CPR, AED, First Aid, or BLS.
